About St Luke’s

St Luke's Grammar School is an Independent, Anglican, co-educational school, with two Campuses on Sydney's Northern Beaches. One Campus is located in Dee Why (Pre-K to Year 12) and a second Campus is located in Bayview (Pre-K to Year 6). St Luke’s has built a reputation as a premier co-educational independent school that achieves outstanding academic and pastoral outcomes for students. 

St Luke’s employs over 120 full-time and part-time teachers, supported by teachers’ aides, peripatetic tutors and administrative and grounds staff. The School currently has close to 1400 students across our Dee Why and Bayview Campuses.

St Luke’s Grammar School is one of seventeen schools that are part of the Anglican Schools Corporation (ASC) network of schools. ASC staff work closely with the Principal and School Council to ensure wise oversight and governance of the School as well as provide support with core services including finance, IT, Compliance and Human Resources.

Reporting to:           The Principal and Business Manager


St Luke’s Grammar School is seeking to appoint a Head of Community Engagement. This is a new leadership position within the School and the Head of Community Engagement will be a member of the Executive Team. The successful applicant will be responsible for a team that builds St Luke’s reputation as an exceptional school, through effective communications and initiatives that enhance engagement and connection with staff, students, families, alumni, future students and the wider community.

Reporting Relationships

  • The Head of Community Engagement is accountable to the Principal and Business Manager
  • The Head of Community Engagement will work closely with other Executive members

Key Roles / Duties / Responsibilities

  • Storyteller - passionately share the St Luke’s story with the wider community
  • Networker - Connect people at each stage of the lifecycle of school engagement
  • Work with Executive to design and project manage School Events to ensure excellence and consistency in warmth, tone and messaging
  • Engage potential students and families through creative and informative communications and activities
  • Work closely with the Registrar to ensure future families feel valued and connected
  • Create meaningful connections with Alumni through communications and events
  • Develop and support partnerships with external organisations (eg local businesses)
  • Communications for parents, staff and students across all medias
  • Oversee volunteer recruitment to support School initiatives
  • Promote the School Foundation and fundraising to support School initiatives
  • Manage the execution of the School’s visual identity across paid, owned and earned channels including website, social media, advertising, publications, digital communications, promotions, branding, images, video, style guide, templates, uniform
  • Proactively recommend creative and impactful communication tactics, optimisations and opportunities
  • Brand and reputation management
  • Occasional speech and article preparation for Chair of Council and Principal
  • Develop an effective archiving strategy
  • Support the Principal in crisis management

Strategic Planning

  • Develop an annual marketing and communications plan with clear strategies, tactics and demonstrated outcomes
  • Sustain wide current knowledge and understanding of education and key aspects of leading schools in a complex and changing landscape
  • Inform planning for future cohorts at the School, especially with regard to engagement with the broader community
  • Provide wisdom and insight into wider issues in the community that may impact the School, contributing to discussion as may be required
  • Work cooperatively and creatively with members of the School Executive to plan for and lead events, co-curricular opportunities and other logistical matters

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Build an innovative and creative team of in-house or agency support across areas of responsibility
  • Lead the Communications, Marketing and Community team
  • Work closely with the Executive in ensuring a shared vision for the School is promoted to all stakeholders
  • Work to promote alignment with and strong connection between students and staff at the Dee Why campus with those at the Bayview campus.
  • Attend after-hours meetings and events as required
  • Represent the School at various community bodies and functions
  • Participate in internal School committees
  • Review and update policies in areas of responsibility
  • Prepare and administer budgets in areas of responsibility
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Principal or Business Manager

  • Show a commitment to ongoing self-education
  • Possess excellent personal and interpersonal skills
  • Have demonstrated organisational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications / Licences / Certificates

The successful applicant will:

  • Have relevant Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline: marketing, communications, journalism or business
  • Demonstrate previous relevant experience, with a minimum 5 years experience in a marketing, brand or communications role
  • Advanced use of software packages eg. MS Office, Teams, InDesign or similar, Google platforms
  • Strong understanding of all digital media platforms
  • Valid Working with Children Check required
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

Strong physical, mental and emotional health to deal with the required demands and responsibilities of the role.
