Position Description

This position description outlines the key responsibilities and output required from, the post holder. It is not a definitive list, and the role may well change and evolve over time. 

This position is part-time 3 days per week and may require travel within Australia.


Team:                        Fundraising and Marketing (FAM)

Location:                  Level 1 451 Hunter Street Newcastle NSW - but role could also be undertaken remotely

Reports to:               Head of Fundraising

Direct Reports:       Nil

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Australia is an expanding charity with a strong vision and passionate workforce. CAP has a vision that no one living in Australia will face financial distress alone, we believe in a future where hope, community and generosity abound so that all will flourish. 

Jesus is at the core of all we do here at CAP. We exist to inspire and equip a movement of churches within Australia to walk alongside those in financial distress. CAP provides the training, tools, support and encouragement churches need to effectively walk alongside those in financial distress. 

The Fundraising and Marketing team exists to build the financial capacity of CAP through the development of strategy aligned to our goals, initiatives and targets allowing us to attract, maintain and deepen partnerships and income streams.



You are responsible for implementing an integrated fundraising strategy for current and future key supporter relationships to increase their awareness, engagement, support and income.



You long for a movement of churches in Australia to be participating in God’s redemption story – full of individuals who are invited into this story and are called to a life of serving the poor and vulnerable who are in financial distress.



You are an enthusiastic fundraising professional passionate about participating (and asking others to join you!) in God’s redemptive story, serving the poor and vulnerable facing financial distress. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Increasing income and deepening engagement across CAP’s key relationships portfolio which could include but not be limited to:
    • leading the organisation at face-to-face events for major donors
    • Organisation of face-to-face or online meetings developing bespoke giving projects targeting specific organisational needs
  • Identify, initiate, and cultivate new relationships with potential key supporters
    • Use research, insights, and targeted networking to ensure an ongoing prospect pipeline of key supporters
  • Alongside other FAM stakeholders, coordinate the development of other major giving products and campaigns, including;
    • Mid-level giving products (E.g. Seed Funders, Vision Sponsors)
    • Legacy product development and implementation
  • Using data and results to inform strategy and future opportunities
  • Oversight of trust and grant portfolio
    • Ensure a project lead is allocated to the project (this will likely be someone outside of the FAM team)
    • Work with the finance team to identify potential projects for funding
    • Identify new trust and grant opportunities
    • Manage the annual timeline of applications and ensure applications are being completed before deadlines
  • Assist in the development of longer-term strategic thought and action with regards to CAP’s fundraising needs, seeking to develop new streams of income from key supporters
  • Work with the Head of Fundraising to ensure that the CAP vision and messaging is attractive and clear to all major donors


Measurable Outputs

  • Meeting the targets under the Fundraising and Marketing aspects of the strategic plan inclusive of, but not exclusive to: 

o Key marketing metrics

    • Growth of key supporter audiences

o Income targets

    • One-off from key supporters

o Key Supporter satisfaction indicators

    • Increased giving
    • Decreased attrition
    • Increased engagement

o Trust and Grant applications

    • Number of successful applications made

  • An influencer who loves inspiring people and building long-term relationships
  • A project manager with a focus on ensuring deadlines are met
  • Confident with working autonomously but thrives in a collaborative team environment
  • Success in building cross-team relationships to communicate goals, targets, and initiatives
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to understand the human factors involved in the role
  • Work effectively under pressure to achieve individual and wider team financial targets
  • Organised and driven to reach targets quickly and efficiently
