Position Description: Finance Business Partner


The Anglican Schools Corporation cates for the academic, spiritual, and pastoral needs of over 16,000 students in NSW, ranging in age from four to eighteen years. Through its schools, the Corporation provides high quality education delivered in a nurturing, caring, Christian environment.

We are seeking a Finance Business Partner to work as part of the Group Office, based in Hurstville. The Group Office provides customer focused centralised service functions to the schools within The Anglican Schools Corporation.


Responsible to: Director Operations

Key working relationships: School Principals, School Council Chairs, Executive Team, Director Finance, Financial Controller, Treasury, Capital Works, Government Agencies


Position Purpose:

Co-ordinate, manage and ensure Group Office Services (Financial, IT, Capital Management) are being delivered to allocated portfolio of schools appropriately, so that School Management and Governors can make sound decisions that benefit both the School and the Corporation as a whole.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage stakeholders – Principals, School Council Chairs, Finance, Capital Works, Group Office Executive, Government bodies - in order to optimise the Schools’ deliverables and fulfil the Board’s mission.
  • Be the trusted advisor to the school on matters relating to Finance, IT and Capital Works
  • Support the Vision and Mission of TASC by being a voice into the schools management and decision making processes.
  • Lead the planning, budgeting and forecasting process across a portfolio of schools
  • Support the school aggregation process and reporting by providing information and analysis in respect of a portfolio of schools.
  • Manage the relationship between schools and Group Office services.
  • Attend school council meetings (often after-hours), in order to develop relationship with and understanding of the schools and its challenges so as to provide relevant and meaningful advice.
  • Actively communicate and work collaboratively with Finance, Treasury and Capital Works to ensure a consistent focus on and knowledge of individual schools, within the Corporation as a whole.


Main tasks (but not limited to)

  • Actively report on and manage monthly variances with the school to arrive at solutions to deliver to budget
  • Regular pro-active advice to Director Operations and Group Office Executive.
  • Preparation of annual budget, including advice to Principal / Business Manager
  • Participate in School reviews and provide insight into financial constraints and financial viability of identified solutions.
  • Update financial forecasting model for schools and assist schools to deliver 5-10 year business plans
  • Preparation of monthly financial memo explaining P&L variances to budget to Principals and School Councils for school portfolio
  • Supervise and ensure timely and accurate month end close off, review of actuals and budgets, with key transactions processed by finance and other teams
  • Liaise with the Capital Works team on all capital works projects and expenditure
  • Communicate and correspond with various Government agencies regarding BGA grants and school funding.
  • Taking a holistic view, prepare a monthly financial memo explaining P&L variances to budget for the school Council and Principal
  • Ensure all reports and information provided to the Principals and School Council Chairs is in a format and with appropriate detail to enable the school management to make sound decisions
  • Ad hoc tasks as required


Requirements and Qualifications

  • CA or CPA qualification
  • School service focus and ability to manage multiple clients
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Superior written and verbal communication
  • Superior analytical skills and ability to explain variances
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Intermediate use of other standard MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of Great Plains Dynamics software (advantageous), alternatively exposure to large ERP
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to balance accuracy and timeliness
  • “Can do” attitude
  • Ownership of outcomes
  • Experience in reporting into a Board and sub-committees
  • Practising Christian, active in local church and able to provide a Minister’s reference.
  • Group Office location in Hurstville, able to frequently travel to portfolio of schools
  • Able to attend School Council meetings after hours (up to 5 meetings per month)
  • Ability to work reasonable additional hours to complete deadline
