ANGLICAN YOUTHWORKS

Youthworks is chartered by ordinance to assist the Sydney Anglican diocese in its ministry towards children, youth, and families with the freedom to serve beyond this field (both denominationally and geographically). Youthworks therefore seeks to serve youth directly, as well as through the institutions where they may be found, namely in families, churches, and schools. ACCOUNTS, DATA & FINANCE (ADF)

Youthworks’ ADF Team is to ensure Youthworks remains solvent, maintains strong internal / financial controls, and properly stewards its resources and future. This will include (but not limited to) ensuring that it operates within budget; plans effectively; maximises the use of its resources (including property); has appropriate information systems; acts in compliance with appropriate policies and legislation; acts in alignment with its strategy; and identifies and manages risks. The division also undertakes special projects: assisting the CEO to execute key strategic projects relating to existing ministry teams; and exploring new opportunities that align with Youthworks’ strategy.

 

POSITION PURPOSE

The purpose of the position is to assist the Accounting & Finance Manager and the Assistant Accountant with Accounts Payables and various accounting functions.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounts Assistant

  • Check and Enter suppliers’ invoices
  • Process payments via direct deposits and credit cards
  • Attend general enquiries relating to suppliers’ accounts
  • Reconcile suppliers’ statements

Accounts Receivables

  • Send monthly statements
  • Follow up with phone calls for outstanding debts
  • Attend general enquiries relating to customer accounts
  • Record and apply incoming payments (via bank transfers, cheques, credit cards, etc.) against customer accounts.
  • Perform bank reconciliations both daily and at accounting month-end
  • Track collection performance using Accounts Receivable aging reports
  • Maintain the SAP Concur platform
  • Process reimbursements through SAP Concur
  • Assist the Finance team with end-of-month reporting
  • Calculating six-monthly royalties and maintaining the royalties accrual spreadsheet
  • Troubleshooting ad-hoc issues on Salesforce/Concur/EWay

General accounts

  • Undertake other duties related to the role as directed by the Accounting & Finance Manager or the Assistant Accountant
  • Ensure that any irregularities in operations and systems are reported to relevant stakeholders as soon as possible

  • Ensure all relevant reporting occurs promptly, is enacted as needed and filed accordingly

  • Work autonomously and effectively in a ministry environment where it is important that time is used efficiently, honestly, and resourcefully
  • Be an active team member participating in team meetings and devotions, and be an active member of the Youthworks community

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE (SELECTION CRITERIA)

Essential

  • Accounting knowledge
  • A working knowledge and background of church environment and accounting
  • Demonstrated experience in Accounts Payables and Receivables and other accounting functions
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of teamwork and results-orientation
  • Demonstrated ability to work within an environment of evolving priorities and tasks, while maintaining a high attention to detail
  • Ability to grasp large amounts of information and be able to quickly learn and adapt
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and to be flexible to reflect changes in priority
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications and databases
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with a focus on providing strong customer service
  • A systematic and focused approach to tasks with a strong attention to detail
  • An ability to work to set deadlines
  • An ability to work with a wide range of staff to achieve effective outcomes
  • Strong work ethos
  • Personal Christian faith and willingness to work within an Anglican organization
  • Commitment to work with Youthworks mission
  • Verified and Cleared NSW Working With Children Check number for paid employment
  • Problem-solving skills

 

Desirable

  • TAFE/Tertiary qualification in Accounting (or currently studying Accounting)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel covering Pivot tables, V Look Ups, and formulas
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit organization
  • Experience using Salesforce
