Church Welcome Desk Associate

The Scots’ Church Melbourne

Part time - Permanent

The Scots’ Church, located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, has a deep sense of history and a vibrant living presence in the city.  A diverse body of people gathers each week to worship God in a variety of styles and settings including traditional, contemporary and international.  Our historic buildings are central to our mission and community presence.

We are seeking a Welcome Desk Associate to be the public face of our congregation – serving tourists, city workers, and event attendees during the week, and assisting our Concierge with newcomers on Sundays.

We are looking for someone who brings warmth, hospitality, and professionalism, and who is committed to helping visitors feel valued and connected, ensuring the mission of the Church is reflected in every interaction.

About the Role

Reporting to the Venue Manager, the Welcome Desk Associate plays a key role in ensuring that the Church’s facilities, hospitality, and public presence operate smoothly throughout the week.  Core responsibilities include:

  • Opening and closing the church facilities and ensuring spaces are ready for use
  • Setting up the church, meeting rooms and equipment
  • Welcoming and assisting visitors, tourists, event attendees, and church members
  • Introducing newcomers to the Minister and other church leaders to support pastoral connection
  • Providing basic information to visitors who enquire about the Church – its history, mission and ministries – and the gospel of Christ
  • Monitoring and responding appropriately to safety and security incidents
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy, and welcoming appearance across all public areas

About You

  • You demonstrate Christian character and values, and you are committed to supporting the mission of the Church by building positive, respectful relationships with all comers.
  • You bring a warm, welcoming presence alongside strong organisational and communication skills.
  • You have knowledge of Scots’ Church and its ministries, or you are willing to develop this understanding as a key part of your role.
  • You have a high level of relational discernment, with the ability to direct visitors towards appropriate spiritual or pastoral assistance when needed.
  • You are physically capable of being on your feet for extended periods, responding quickly to visual and auditory cues, and performing light manual tasks as required.
  • You hold (or are willing to obtain) a valid Working With Children Check and National Police Clearance.
  • You are willing to undertake a Certificate II in Security Operations as part of your training.

Because this role directly supports the mission and ministry of Scots’ Church, you should be an active participant in the Christian faith and committed to upholding and supporting the Church’s mission and values.

Full training in all aspects of the role will be provided at the Church’s expense.

Expected hours of work

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10am – 2pm

Sunday: 10am – 2pm

How to Apply

To be considered for the role, submit your resume and cover letter to gm@scotschurch.com addressing the role and person specifications above.
