Mukti Australia (MA) https://mukti.org.au is a Christian international aid and development organisation with partners in India and Sri Lanka. Our vision is to bring hope and a brighter future to marginalised, vulnerable women and children in these countries.

MA supports the Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission in India, which first opened its doors in 1889. The Mission has a main residential community that provides safe shelter and a loving environment to over 400 destitute and abandoned women and children. It also has 18 other locations across eight states of India. The support of Wings of Hope in Sri Lanka commenced in 2016. It works collaboratively with local faith communities to offer programmes that promote a sense of personal worth and potential amongst women and children in Hatton’s tea plantations.

Mukti Australia seeks new board members to grow our board and continue to provide governance and strategic direction in the future. The Board meets 6 times a year face-to-face in Victoria or on zoom and is held in the evenings.

Skills Required

Board members will work within our governance structure to protect the interests of the Mission, ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and hold the staff accountable for their management of it. This is a volunteer, non-remunerated position. To strengthen the Board's role, we seek new Board members to enhance and develop our skills matrix in the following areas:

  • Business Development / Social Enterprise
  • Governance
  • Human Resources
  • Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Law & Legal Services
  • Research & Development / Innovation
  • Strategy (Strategic / Succession Planning)

The Process

If you are interested in being considered for the Board, please send a cover letter summarising the relevant experience and skills you could offer. Please also include a resume with a listing of any previous and current Board service. Previous governance experience would be advantageous but is not imperative.

Each applicant must be a mature Christian and eligible to be a member of Mukti Australia, signing a statement of Christian belief. You will need to provide references, including that from a Christian minister.

Appointments to the Board are at the sole discretion of the Board, and determination will include understanding the fit of the applicant into the existing Board makeup.

Following receipt of your cover letter and resume, we will contact you within four working days to arrange a meeting and discuss any further questions you may have.

Submit application to boardchair@mukti.org.au
