Sunnybank District Baptist Church is looking for a Senior Pastor to lead the Church.
Established in 1957 Sunnybank District Baptist Church (SDBC) is an exciting contemporary, Christ centred, Bible teaching Church. With an annual budget of over one million dollars supporting the work of the church, SDBC is committed to prayer and to local and overseas missions. It is a large Church with an average weekly attendance of 655. SDBC has great facilities on a large block with plenty of room for expansion. SDBC is a multi-cultural Church with three English, one Mandarin and one Cantonese service every Sunday. There are three on-line services each week, one in English, one in Cantonese and one in Mandarin for our on-line congregation available on YouTube. Fully staffed, the Church has five pastors plus auxiliary staff. This is a unique opportunity for the right person to lead SDBC into the future.

Our next Senior Pastor at SDBC
Under God’s direction, the Senior Pastor (SP) will lead and facilitate SDBC’s ministries in maintaining and developing further a healthy Christian community which fulfills our Biblical mission: “Working with God in transforming people into passionate followers of Jesus”. To enable this, SDBC is pursuing a SP that meets the following selection criteria:
- A faithful student of the Word of God, with a strong grasp of Theology, being able to preach and teach impactful sermons and Bible studies.
- A person of prayer with a strong relationship with the LORD that displays a clear love for God.
- A person of high moral standards; promoting trust, respect, honesty and openness with staff and the congregation.
- A person who loves people; in humility, recognises the importance of serving others. Who is approachable for the believer and non-believer. Who eagerly desires the `lost` to be found.
- A person with strong leadership skills, capable of guiding the Church through challenges and growth across its multi-generational and multicultural congregations.
Senior Pastor Key Responsibilities
- To provide visionary leadership to the church, developing the long-term vision with the board and with the pastoral team. Working with the board to provide stable leadership and governance for SDBC.
- To provide an annual focus for teaching from the pulpit and overseeing of ministries and church activities.
- Be responsible to approve and oversee the preaching of God’s Word across the church.
- To oversee Pastoral reviews and supervision of pastoral staff.
- To develop and implement pathways for spiritual formation and discipleship.
- To oversee the provision of pastoral care within the church.
- To be intergenerational in demonstrating God’s love and leading the church in engaging the
- surrounding community.
- To oversee the development and training of pastors and leaders within the church.
Role Details
Terms of Employment
- This is a full-time position.
- Remuneration and conditions are based on the current SDBC staff Remuneration Guidelines;
- The SP will be the primary teacher on Sundays but also delegate preaching responsibilities and organise and approve other speakers as required;
- Standard 4 weeks per annum annual leave (with dates agreed upon with the Board); 10 days paid personal/sick leave;
Accountability
- The SP will report directly to the Board; and ultimately be accountable to the Membership of SDBC.
- The SP will undertake professional supervision in accordance with Queensland Baptist mandates;
- The SP will be a mentor, and meet with personal mentors, regularly.
Other Requirements
To be successful, candidates will also fulfil the following requirements:
- Be Registered and ordained by QB, or is eligible to be
- Have considerable experience leading a congregation, and/or extensive experience in leading specialist ministry areas
- Be in agreement with the vision and constitution of SDBC
- Demonstrate the ability to both lead people with confidence, and work collaboratively with others with humility.
