Christian Heritage College (CHC) is seeking a Senior Librarian to champion our library services in support of learning, teaching, and research. Reporting directly to the Chief Academic Officer, this pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead, collaborate across departments, and shape the future of library services in alignment with CHC's Christian ethos.

The Role

The Senior Librarian leads in delivering high-quality, student-focused library services that support the College's learning, teaching, and research mission. Working closely with academic and IT teams, this role combines strategic oversight, mentorship, and innovation to ensure our library remains a welcoming, resource-rich environment aligned with CHC's Christian ethos.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support the library team to deliver high-quality, responsive, and friendly services.
  • Build strong relationships with academic departments to understand and meet scholarly and administrative needs.
  • Research and implement innovative technologies and resource formats to enhance library services.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff, fostering professional growth and job satisfaction.
  • Deliver expert support in information literacy, research assistance, and precision cataloguing.
  • Manage Inter-Library Loans and provide tailored research support for faculty and postgraduate students.
  • Ensure copyright compliance for learning materials distributed via Moodle and other platforms.
  • Oversee and maintain the library management system (Alma) and discovery layer (PrimoVE).
  • Continuously improve library systems and services through strategic integration of innovative technologies.

About You

You are a mature Christian leader with a strong background in Library and Information Science and an understanding of the higher education context.

You bring:

  • Qualifications in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) and eligibility for professional membership with the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
  • Demonstrated understanding of higher education contexts, including course structures, learning outcomes, and the role of the library in supporting teaching, learning, and research.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team to deliver high-quality library services.
  • Experience in supervising staff, managing workflows, and fostering a collaborative and service-oriented culture.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, with experience in providing front-line support, research skills training, and information literacy development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse student and staff populations.
  • Experience in managing physical and digital library collections, including acquisitions, cataloguing, databases, and online resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and implement innovative technologies that enhance access to library services.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with IT services and academic staff to ensure seamless integration of library resources with learning technologies.
  • High-level organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to analyse service usage, student needs, and industry trends to inform strategic planning.
  • Alignment with and commitment to the CHC Christian mission, ethos, and values.
