Alphacrucis University College is a Christian higher education institution committed to equipping students for Christ-centred influence in the world. As such, we are seeking a values-aligned, experienced Payroll and HR Business Partner to lead critical functions in our HR team.

This strategic leadership role oversees payroll and superannuation processes, leads compliance with higher education and industrial relations legislation, and contributes to a culture of excellence and service. The successful candidate will be aligned with the Christian mission and values of the University College and demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and a heart for service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll & Superannuation Leadership
    Lead the accurate and compliant management of payroll and superannuation systems, providing guidance and oversight to the Payroll Officer and Superannuation Officer. Maintain compliance with Australian legislation and internal standards.
  • Industrial Award Compliance
    Ensure adherence to relevant industrial instruments, including the Higher Education Industry Awards, by maintaining up-to-date knowledge and interpreting award conditions accurately in payroll and HR processes.
  • Legislative Training & Awareness
    Stay informed on emerging legislation and regulatory changes relevant to the higher education sector, ensuring that Alphacrucis remains compliant. Lead or participate in training initiatives to keep the team and management updated.
  • Strategic HR Support
    Partner with management to provide expert guidance on employee relations, HR policy, and workforce planning, contributing to strategic HR and organisational decisions.
  • Recruitment & Onboarding
    Coordinate and lead the end-to-end recruitment lifecycle, ensuring a seamless candidate experience and compliance with employment law and policy.
  • Process Improvement
    Identify opportunities for improving HR and payroll systems and procedures, delivering efficient, user-friendly solutions.
  • Manager Coaching & Development
    Support managers through mentoring and training in HR best practices, award interpretation, and policy application.
  • Government Reporting & Compliance
    Prepare accurate and timely reports for government agencies such as the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) and Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll and superannuation
  • Experience leading payroll and superannuation functions and managing small teams.
  • Familiarity with interpreting and applying Higher Education awards
  • Proven track record in managing government reporting obligations (e.g., WGEA, ABS).
  • Background in delivering training or leading legislative updates across HR teams.
  • Alignment with the Christian mission, ethos, and values of Alphacrucis University College.

Skills & Attributes

  • Advanced proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, particularly in payroll processing and compliance.
  • Ability to translate complex legislation and award conditions into practical HR and payroll processes.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Adaptability, integrity, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement and organisational development.
  • A demonstrated commitment to Christian values, ethical practice, and professional integrity.
