National Director

Safe Ministry Check (www.safeministrycheck.com.au)

The Organisation

Safe Ministry Check (SMC) is a leading SaaS provider dedicated to helping faith-based organisations implement and maintain a robust culture of safeguarding vulnerable people in their communities. As we enter a critical phase of growth with significant potential over the next 5-10 years, we are looking for a high-caliber leader to serve as our National Director to steward our operations and drive our mission of protecting the vulnerable.

The Opportunity

This is the senior leadership position within the organization. Reporting directly to the Board, the National Director will take full responsibility for the strategy, health, and growth of SMC, transitioning into the role currently held by the Managing Director.

We are seeking a "starter"; a self-directed executive who doesn't wait for a map but builds one. You will have the autonomy to lead the business while ensuring that the gold standard of safeguarding is maintained across all client interactions, denominational relationships, and product developments.

Key Responsibilities

The National Director is responsible for the holistic success of the business, including:

  • Business Management: Managing daily business operations, including oversight of a small support staff.
  • Strategic Growth & Sales: Developing and executing high-level marketing strategies (SEO, Google Ads, direct mail) building client network relationships and identifying new growth opportunities within the Christian church landscape.
  • Financial Management: Full oversight of accounts via Xero, payroll, ATO reporting, and long-term financial forecasting.
  • Product & Technical Stewardship: Managing the software development roadmap. This might include maintaining a high-level understanding of the SaaS infrastructure and/or liaising with IT specialists.
  • Compliance & Sector Engagement: Serving as the primary representative for SMC regarding regulatory changes, legal issues, and insurance sector developments.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Faith & Integrity: An active Christian faith and a commitment to Biblical teaching. A Pastor’s reference will be required as part of the application process.
  • Relational Excellence: A patient, approachable nature with a genuine heart for safeguarding. You must be able to navigate complex denominational structures with wisdom and grace.
  • Business Acumen: A strong understanding of SaaS business models, including the importance of UX, subscription billing cycles, and client retention.
  • Proactive Autonomy: The ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and "do whatever is required" to scale a mission-driven business.
  • Executive Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for board reporting, client engagement, and national strategy meetings.

Position Details

  • Remuneration: $90,000 – $110,000 (plus superannuation), commensurate with experience.
  • Performance Bonus: Up to $20,000 based on agreed KPIs (with the potential to carry over into the following year)
  • Benefits: Access to FBT Rebatable salary packaging.
  • Location: While the office is based in Newcastle, this position could be a remote role. Note: The initial 2-month training period will require travel to Newcastle for onboarding.
  • Tenure: Full-time preferred; high-caliber applicants looking for flexible options (i.e. part-time) will be considered.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a cover letter addressing the selection criteria to applications@safeministrycheck.com.au
