EXPRESSION OF INTEREST 
PMSA BOARD COMMITTEE MEMBERS

 

Introduction

The PMSA Board is seeking to appoint volunteer members to its: Finance and Audit Committee, Risk, Child Safeguarding and Assurance Committee, and Nominations and Remuneration Committee. 

This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise to the PMSA and to influence its long‑term development and mission. Members gain the chance to work closely with schools and PMSA leadership, contribute to strategic decision‑making and develop their own governance capability in a highly supportive and values‑driven environment. 

The Board Committees play a vital role in supporting the PMSA Board in fulfilling its constitutional objectives of advancing education and advancing religion, while strengthening good governance practices. 

The PMSA owns four of Queensland’s well-known independent schools: Brisbane Boys’ College, Clayfield College, Somerville House and Sunshine Coast Grammar School. Established in 1918, the PMSA is a joint mission of the Uniting Church of Australia, Queensland Synod, and the Presbyterian Church of Queensland.  

As a Christian faith-based organisation, the PMSA seeks Board Committee members who will uphold, support and respect the primary place of the Christian faith and values within the PMSA and its schools.

 

Purpose of the Board Committees 

The primary objective of the Board Committees is to support the Board by providing oversight across key areas of the PMSA’s operations, governance and Christian mission. Additionally, the Committees will provide recommendations to assist the PMSA Board in carrying out its responsibilities in support of the PMSA’s mission and purpose.

 

Who We’re Looking For 

The Board Committees are seeking expressions of interest from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Finance, accounting and audit
  • Risk management, assurance and compliance
  • Child safeguarding and child protection
  • Executive and Strategic HR skills
  • Governance experience
  • Board appointments, executive remuneration and succession planning
  • Property, assets and philanthropy 

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong governance and strategic advisory capability, preferably in a board or committee context
  • Senior leadership or executive experience
  • A collaborative and relationship-centred approach
  • A commitment to the mission and community of the PMSA 

As a Christian faith-based organisation, the PMSA is seeking expressions of interest from professionals who will uphold and support the Christian faith and values that underpin the life and work of the PMSA and its schools.

 

Time Commitment 

This voluntary role includes:

  • Completion of mandatory online training
  • Attendance at a minimum of 4 to 6 meetings per year, mostly in the evenings after standard working hours
  • Pre-reading and meeting preparation

 

Child Safeguarding/ PMSA Statement of commitment to Child Safety and Wellbeing 

Protecting and advocating for the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people in our care is at the heart of everything we do. Every child and young person deserves to be and feel safe, respected, and supported - everywhere, every day. 

Successful applicants must:

  • Support the PMSA Child Protection Policy and Procedures
  • Hold a current Volunteer Working with Children Check
  • Undergo criminal history and director checks

To express your interest, please submit your resume accompanied by a cover letter outlining: 

  1. Why you are interested in volunteering in education and working with children 
  2. How you believe you can support the PMSA and its Board Committees in advancing the PMSA’s mission and your alignment with our Christian faith; and
  3. Highlight your relevant governance, leadership, or technical expertise.

Shortlisted candidates will meet with:

  • A representative of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee; and
  • PMSA Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director – People

Prospective candidates will be required to nominate two referees who can attest to their skills, experience and character.
