About Mission Without Borders
Mission Without Borders is an international Christian mission, journeying with poor and marginalised communities in Eastern Europe. We bring practical and spiritual support, sharing the hope that is found in Jesus.
We focus on 6 countries impacted by decades of communist rule, financial upheaval, political instability and war. We partner with local churches to implement programs that support their local outreach while assisting families and children to change their circumstances, find hope and break the generational cycle of poverty.
This work is supported by the fundraising and awareness raising efforts of teams in 10 affiliated countries including, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, Netherlands, Norway and Germany.
MWB Australia is an Australian registered charity with DGR status. Our local board provides governance and oversight for the Australian ministry, with one clear purpose: raising the support that allows the love of Jesus to be shared in word and deed across Eastern Europe.
The Opportunity
Our board currently has five directors, and we’re looking to welcome a sixth who can help us grow our impact here in Australia. This is a chance to put your faith into action, applying your skills through strategic oversight and hands-on support of a mission you believe in.
Board members serve in a voluntary role with reasonable expenses reimbursed, and Directors’ Insurance is provided.
Our Board meets four times per year (including AGM) and may require attendance at other ad hoc meetings during the year. Term of appointment is one year.
What You’ll Do
As a board member, you’ll work alongside fellow directors to:
- Provide governance, practical support and encouragement to MWB Australia’s Country Director and staff
- Provide advice from your area of expertise to support the Country Director for example in Fundraising, Marketing, HR, Finance or cultural experience of working in Eastern Europe
- Help implement MWB International’s strategy in a way that fits the Australian context
- Oversee legal, financial and risk compliance for the local organisation
- Build MWB’s profile and networks across Australian churches, donors and partners
- Support and pray for the people and communities MWB Australia serves
What We’re Looking For
Faith & Character
- A committed Christian, with a heart to serve the poor and marginalized and an active faith worked out in the local church
- A commitment to proactive governance and fiduciary responsibilities in a manner that is considerate, confidential and abiding by organisation policies and good practice
- Willingness to sign MWB’s Statement of Faith and a letter of commitment to its Purpose, Vision, Mission and Christian ethos
Experience
- Proven relevant experience in a professional discipline (for example Fundraising, Marketing, Finance or HR) or personal experience in Eastern Europe or a similar culture.
- Board-level or leadership experience, in a corporate, not-for-profit, ministry or community setting
- A confident communicator, comfortable representing MWB’s mission to churches, business contacts and donors alike
Especially Valuable Right Now
- Experience building partnerships, sponsorships or fundraising relationships
- Strong networks within Australian churches and the wider Christian community
- Skills in one or more of: marketing/communications, finance, strategy, or international development
